There were many cameras recording the event. If you were one of the photographing guests and if would be willing to contribute your photos or videos to this effort please contact the Banquet Chair, Chris Foleen, as soon as possible at chfoleen@mvisionstudios.com Please share this information with anyone you know, who may also have taken pictures or videos at the event. Our deadline is March 31st. Our goal is to have this DVD available later this spring.

The Cascade Pacific Council recently unveiled its Lewis & Clark Awards Program to commemorate the Bicentennial celebration of Lewis & Clark’s Corps of Discovery Expedition in the year of 1805.
Lewis & Clark, commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson, were given the task to explore and map the lands west of St. Louis, Missouri, finding a water route to the Pacific Ocean. This followed the purchase of the Louisiana Territory by the United States in 1803. Lewis & Clark and
their “Corps of Discovery” set out on one of the
most documented American adventures in 1804. The vision, planning, difficulty, hardship, and danger experienced by the Lewis & Clark Expedition have been compared to the space mission, which placed a man on the moon in the 1960’s. It was an exploration and taming of the West.
Lewis & Clark reached their final destination - the Pacific Ocean - in 1805. There they wintered at Fort Clatsop, Oregon, until the start of their journey home in 1806.
To celebrate this page in American history, the Cascade Pacific Council developed a Lewis & Clark Awards recognition program to celebrate the accomplishments of Lewis and Clark. This program began March 1, 2005.
There is a Cascade Pacific Council shoulder patch (above) with a border being a kelly green border, which is available through the Nor’West Scout Shop.
The Lewis & Clark awards program, is an educational adventure in which Scouts, Venturers and Scouters may pursue progressive levels of awards including Bronze, Silver, Gold and Presidential awards. For each level the participant earns the right to purchase a special Lewis & Clark patch and/or medal, and is awarded a certificate for each award level. Awards are earned in progression; the Silver is earned after earning the Bronze award first, etc.. The respective patches and medals are available for purchase through the Nor’West Scout Shop.
The Presidential Award is challenging, requiring a 25-mile canoe trip down the Clearwater River in Idaho, along the same route as Lewis & Clark. The Presidential Award attests to vision, determination, planning, research, and endurance as with the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The Presidential patch and medal will be serial numbered.
The Presidential Award is only available by completing requirements by August 31, 2006. The Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards will be available on a continuing basis even after the conclusion of the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Celebration.
| The first step is to purchase a seventy-page journal (right) for $6.00 from the Cascade Pacific Council Volunteer Service Counter. This is the participant's journal; to read, to study; to record their journey, to write in, to sketch in; to mount photographs, to collect stamps and mount stamps, to see the award level requirements, to have journey successes validated, and information on how to obtain awards, etc. |
