The Illinois Department of the American Legion awards a one-year scholarship of $1,000 to a qualified Scout or Explorer who is a member of a Scout troop of Illinois and a high school senior; he does not have to be a resident of Illinois. He is required to write a 500-word essay on the Legion's Americanism and Scouting program. Four runners-up will each receive a $200 grant. Applications and information are available from the Legion Scout Chairman, The American Legion, P. O. Box 2910, Bloomington, IL 61701. These applications must be submitted to the department headquarters by March 15 of each year.
