Things to know and remember regarding your stay at Gilbert Ranch

  • Please pay all fees two weeks prior to camp and bring receipts with you.
  • Everyone spending at least on night will need a medical form.
  • Any special needs (dietary, physical restrictions, etc) must be communicated to us two weeks prior to your arrival. Homestead assignments are made before you arrive and can not be changed. The homesteads are situated on a hill. You may view the 2005 Gilbert Ranch Menu on the Gilbert Ranch page. A Special Needs Form is available on the Parent and Leader’s Guide web page.
  • Pack lightly. Your stay will be short and we will take good care of your needs. The Trading Post offers snacks and beverages as well as great souvenirs. Plan for rain or shine. Coolers are not suggested.
  • Driving time from downtown Portland is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and 1 hour from Salem. Pass through Scotts Mills and turn right on S Maple Grove Road. If you are coming from Marquam, you will turn left. Turn right immediately onto S Butte Creek Road. The signs are hard to see. The entrance to camp is 5 miles from the turn off on S Butte Creek Road.
  • Arrival time is 1:30 pm. You will be greeted by the staff at that time and may not enter camp before you are greeted. Please eat lunch before you arrive. A portable toilet is located in the parking lot.
  • Beware of road construction at the intersection of Hwy 213 from Oregon City and Hwy 211 from Woodburn. This will last all summer. Interstate 5 or Hwy 214 are good alternatives.
  • In order to ride the horses, each Scout must have long pants and closed toed shoes or boots.
  • Guests are welcome at Gilbert Ranch. The Western Street Show, on the middle night of your stay, is a must see experience. The Bar-be-cue and closing campfire on the final night is another opportunity for family and friends to visit. Guest meals at $4.50, breakfast; $5.50, lunch (dinner); and $6.50 dinner (supper).
