Council Web Guidelines
Must follow National Guidelines, plus these:
- Confined to District Events - No individual troop activities
- External links must conform to standards below
- Follow BSA Policy/Guidelines as an Organization
- Root page conforms to CPC Web Site Template(other pages may differ)
- "Last Updated" Reference on Root Page
- Use of common Navigation system (top and bottom)
- Write pages for majority browser access
- Follow accessibility guidelines
- No advertising
- Keep up to date
- Names and addresses of Boys MUST NOT be published under any circumstances
- Names and addresses or phone numbers of adults MUST NOT be published unless they provide their consent
External Links
- All external links must be clearly identified as such. This can be done one of two ways:
- Script that alerts user that they are moving off the site.
- Links clearly marked stating they will take you off site.
- The content of the linked site must be appropriate to the Scouting movement.
- The linked site cannot contain links to any sites that contain material that is not appropriate to the Scouting movement.
- The linked site cannot engage in the electronic sale of BSA Supply Division merchandise or competing products.
- Linked sites must abide by all laws regarding copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property.
- Linked sites must consider the safety and privacy of their participants by obtaining the necessary permissions to release information about or images of any individual.
- The council has the right to remove any links the council deems inappropriate.
Flexibility
- Beyond root page, have freedom to re-design template
- Possible exception:Navigation bars, unless alternative provided
- Not required to use any specific HTML editor
- Full editing control over own district or "other" pages
Obligations
- Uphold the Scout Oath and Law
- Respect the organization in whatever is published
- Be certain that the information is accurate and best represents the hard work volunteers have "put-in"
