Final Results of the Mayoral Pinewood Derby

24 Area Mayors attempted to corner the competition

([ Portland], [Or], [08/27/04])-Twenty four (24) Portland area mayors competed in a rousing pinewood derby race for the purpose of promoting the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America Fun At Every Turn Cub Scout membership campaign. The Portland pinewood derby event was held on August 24.

Peoples Choice Award Winner – City of Oregon City Bob Bailey Nick & Zac Warford, (The car that best represents the city) City Commissioner #1 Pack 470

Clear Vision Award Winner – City of Rivergrove Larry Barrett Charlie Magmer, Pack 414 (The car with best paint design)

Blown Piston Award – City of Wood Village David Fuller Lucas Liebertz, Pack 717 (Slowest car)

First Gear Award – City of Scappoose Glenn Dorschler Cameron Sahnow, Pack 168 (Most unique car body design)

The Fun At Every Turn membership campaign is designed to inform parents and Cub Scout-aged youth about Scouting benefits. Cub Scouting is the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) program for boys in first through fifth grade who are led by strong adult mentors. The BSA provides a comprehensive year-round program of outdoor adventure and community service, that helps build character, and self-esteem in youth. Other BSA programs include Boy Scouts (vigorous outdoor program) for boys ages 11-17, Varsity Scouting (high-adventure experiences) for boys ages 14-17, Venturing (high-adventure experiences) for young men and women ages 14-20, Sea Scouting (adventure and challenges on sea and land) for young men and women ages 14-21, and Exploring (work-site based program) for young men and women ages 14-21. Locally the Cascade Pacific Council is among the nation’s largest Scout council, in the nation, boasting over 15,902 adult mentors who help serve over 47,889 youth.
