Descriptions of Training Courses

Below is a list of every major training event offered in the Cascade Pacific Council. If you haven't received any training yet, start with watching the Fast Start video and register for the next Basic Adult Leader Training course. Every youth in this council deserves and will have trained leaders.

Held every year in March, the one day Advancement Extravaganza teaches a variety of subjects for Cub Scout, Boy Scout & Venture Units. Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, Committee Members and Advancement Chairmen are encouraged to attend.
Held several times per year, BALOO teaches adult leaders the basics of camping in the context of a cub scout pack. The course focuses on teaching the guidelines and limitations associated with Cub Scout level camping.

Basic Adult Leader Training

Each District holds their own Basic Adult Leader training courses throughout each year. If you are unable to attend your own District training, feel free to attend one held by a nearby District.

The Conference is designed to be a supplemental training for ALL commissioners.  For the new commissioner, it will help to make sense of their basic training and to relate it to their Scouting job.  For the experienced commissioner, the conference is a way to sharpen their skills and gain renewed enthusiasm to support units.  All Roundtable commissioners and staff will receive practical knowledge to help them improve their roundtables.

The annual supplemental training for commissioners has been updated and given a “new look” to provide a fun, exciting, and information-packed day for commissioners.  Don’t miss it!

Eagle Board Training

Adult Scouters interested in holding Eagle Scout Board of Reviews need to certify annually to keep updated with changing requirements and standardize to provide consistent board of reviews across the council. The class is a one evening certification.
Fast Start is a video training for new Scout leader or parent. There is a separate video for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and for Venturing. Fast Start training is the first step for any new volunteer and is to be delivered immediately after a new leader registers and before he or she meets with any youth member.
Held every year in November, LLDC is a one day leadership conference for Order of the Arrow members to learn how to plan and lead in delivering the OA program to the Lodge, Chapter and unit level.
Held every year in July, Polaris is an outdoor six day youth leadership training experience for 13 - 15 year old scouts. The Polaris program is designed from the National Youth Leadership Training course of the B.S.A. It is a patrol and troop based experience directly applicable to home troop operations.
Held every year in November, Pow Wow is a large one day training event with classes on every aspect of Cub Scouts. Lunch during the day is held in the style of a Blue & Gold banquet.
This new program starting in May is an exciting introduction to venturing activities for Scoutmasters, Venture Crew Leaders and Venturing Advisors.
Online Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat training
Held every year in June or July, Sogus is a week long youth leader training conference for 14 - 17 year old Scouts. The Sogus program uses the patrol method to teach leadership and outdoor skills.

Train The Trainer

Held every year in September, TTT is a one day seminar for all Scouting leaders and teaches the basics of training in a variety of formats. Skills learned are directly applicable to the Scouting program in training youth.

Trainer's Workshop

Held every year in March, Trainer's Workshop is a one day supplemental training program for Scout leaders and District/Council training teams. The program focuses on presentations and using available tools to enhance training experiences.
Held every year in June, WLOT provides outdoor leadership skills that are specifically relevant to Webelos level camping situations.
Wood Badge is the pinnacle of the adult training continuum. Any adult who has completed Fast Start and Basic Adult Leader Training should find the time to experience Wood Badge. It is a 6 day program sometimes held in a single week, but usually split over two weekends. After the course each participant must use the newly learned skills to complete a series of tasks related to his/her registered position in Scouting.
