This class is intended to train experienced climbers up to the BSA Level II Climbing Instructor level. It is a two-weekend course, with the first weekend being Ground School, and the second weekend being the practical at HorseThief Butte, WA. Attendance at both weekends is required. Students can earn the Level I or Level II card, depending on the proficiency that they exhibit during the course.
Participants will enjoy two weekends of classroom and hands-on training, including instruction in Climbing Technique, Safety Considerations, Gear Selection and Care, Group Instruction and Route Selection and Set-Up. These topics will be presented by experienced members of the council climbing committee.
The first weekend will focus on classroom sessions at Camp Baldwin. The second weekend will be hands-on skills at Horsethief Butte.

Persons age 16 and 17 are able to attend with a paying adult, but only those 18 and up are eligible to receive a training card as a BSA Climbing Instructor. Upon successful completion of this course, individuals satisfactorily demonstrating their instructional, management and anchoring skills will receive a training card as a “BSA Climbing Instructor”. A training card will be granted at the successful completion of the course, and with the approval of training staff.
Course prerequisites: MUST have prior climbing experience; this is not a beginner class.

A personal climbing helmet and harness are required for both weekends.
