This course, upon successful completion, will enable you to be a Certified Rifle Instructor. This course has three parts and all parts are required. Each part has a written test, each requiring a 90% or better passing score to continue to the next phase.
The first part is Basic Instructor Training (BIT), which will be held in the metro area at the Portland Scout Office on Saturday, September 18, beginning at 8:30AM sharp.
Cascade Pacific Council, BSA, Viking Room

The next two parts are at Camp Meriwether. On Friday, September 24, at 6:00pm at Camp Meriwether, we will begin with dinner and proceed directly after with the Basic Rifle course. For all Instructor courses , the NRA has added a requirement that the candidate must have successfully completed the discipline basic course prior to the Instructor course. Upon completion of the Basic Rifle course, to continue onto the Instructor course, the candidate is required to pass a written test and complete a qualification test which involves knowledge, handling, loading, corrective action, and marksmanship.
The final part of the training is the Certified Rifle Instructor course, which will begin upon passing the Basic Rifle course. The Instructor course testing should be complete mid to late afternoon on Sunday.
All firearms will be provided for the class. DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN FIREARMS.
After completion of this course and the instructor submits the course report to the NRA, you will have 30 days to pay Credentialing Fees to the NRA, in order for this course to become part of your ratings. These credentialing fees are not included in the course fee that you pay to CPC. If you are an NRA Member, first time Instructors and Range Safety Officers pay a flat credentialing fee of $35 for a 2 year term. Additional ratings are added at $15 per rating. If you are not an NRA member, first time Instructors and Range Safety Officers pay a flat credentialing fee of $60 for a 2 year term. Additional ratings are added at $30 per rating.
