The Philmont Training Center (PTC) is the national volunteer training center for the Boy Scouts of America Located in NW New Mexico. Since 1950, PTC has provided a unique environment for training volunteer and professional leaders, and a fun family program for every member of the family. Each year, more than 6,000 Scouters and family members attend PTC.

Each conference features the latest tools and techniques, audiovisuals, discussions, idea sharing, and activities led by a faculty of experienced Scouters. All registered Scouters are invited to attend training center courses; council approval is no longer required.

Attending Conferences

As a volunteer leader you will find the adventure of Philmont both inspiring and educational. Also, you can make it a adventure for the entire family.   Titles of some programs that you may find interesting, Dynamic Program Planning, Leadin the NEW Cub Scout Adventure, Putting more Outing in Scouting, Training your Pack’s Leaders, Wilderness 1st Aid:Instructor Trainer Development and Much more.  Go to www.philmontscoutranch.org/PTC.aspx to learn a lot more about this great training opportunity.

Family programs

Programs are planned for all members of the family—infant through adult. Family members enjoy a staff-led program of hiking, tours, handicrafts, games, campfires, and outdoor activities. Family program groups meet while conferences are in regular session.

While the primary purpose of the Philmont Training Center is to host conferences, the opportunity for families to join their Scouter and enjoy a wide range of family programs is what makes PTC unique.

The Philmont Training Center offers a full, organized program for every member of the family—from infants to spouses. Family members will be joined by others in their age group and will participate in a carefully designed, age- and ability-specific program under the leadership of trained, experienced staff. Groups are arranged by age: from Infant to Adult. Visit the Philmont Training Center site for Family Programs for more information.
