Age & Other Requirements

Age Requirements

Due to federal and state employment laws and BSA National Camp Standards, there are minimum ages for applicants:

Age 15 by June 15: Can serve in a two-week volunteer (unpaid) staff-in-training position at overnight camps (Baldwin, Meriwther, Pioneer, NYLT, Butte Creek) only . This is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door for a full-time position next summer.

Age 16 by June 15: Can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff.

Age 18 by June 15: Can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff including management positions with a minimum age of 18 such as bb-gun director, archery director, health officer, commissioner, outdoor skills, ecology/conservation director, and others.

Age 21 by June 15: can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff including management positions with a minimum age of 21 such as program director, head cook, aquatics director, horseback riding director, chaplain, shooting sports director, climbing director, and others.

Age 25 by June 15: can serve in any camp as a full time, paid staff including camp director. Camp directors are selected in October for the following year.

Membership and training Requirements

All summer camp staff, whether volunteer or paid, must become registered members Crew 808 of Boy Scouts of America, and pass prerequisite training in youth protection, hazardous, weather, workplace harassment and more. Applicants over age 18 must apply as an adult and successfully pass a criminal background check.
