The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award is presented to individuals or organizations in recognition of outstanding community service in the development and implementation of opportunities for youth from rural or disadvantaged urban backgrounds. 

Past council recipients include  Justice Adrienne Nelson, Vicki Nakashima, Deena Pierott, Michael Alexander and Hermann Colas Jr.
